How to Prepare Your Cypress Home for a Professional Photo Shoot

Cypress is one of the fastest-moving real estate markets in the Houston metro. Bridgeland consistently ranks among the top 10 best-selling master-planned communities in the country — which means new listings hit the MLS and go under contract in the same week. In this environment, your listing photos are doing the selling before buyers ever set foot inside. Here's the complete preparation checklist Jon walks every Cypress seller through.

Exterior Prep: Curb Appeal in Cypress's New Construction Context

Many Cypress homes — especially in Bridgeland and Miramesa — were built within the last 5 years. That's both an advantage and a challenge: the homes are clean and modern, but they often sit on still-maturing landscaping. Here's how to make the exterior photograph at its best.

  • Mow, edge, and trim all lawn areas — even recently sodded lawns should be freshly edged
  • Clear the driveway of all vehicles, basketball hoops, bikes, and sports equipment
  • Add fresh mulch to all flower beds — this is especially impactful for newer homes with young landscaping
  • Clean the front door, garage door panels, and driveway surface
  • Remove any construction-era stickers from windows or doors if your home is newer
  • If your Bridgeland home backs to one of the community lakes or waterways, clear the back fence area and yard completely — this will be featured in drone shots
  • For Towne Lake waterfront homes, ensure the dock, seawall area, and water's edge are clear of equipment and debris

Interior Prep: The Open-Plan Challenge

Cypress's newer builds — particularly in Bridgeland and Cypress Creek Lakes — almost universally feature open-concept floor plans. The kitchen, dining, and living areas are one continuous visual space, which means clutter anywhere is visible everywhere. The declutter standard for these homes is higher than for older, compartmentalized floor plans.

  • Kitchen island: clear everything. Nothing on the island except at most a fruit bowl or a single plant
  • Kitchen counters: all appliances (toaster, coffee maker, air fryer, dish rack) off the counter and stored
  • Open shelving: if your Bridgeland or Miramesa home has open kitchen shelving, style it intentionally — a few books, plants, and matching items. Remove random clutter
  • Living area: remove all remote controls, throw blankets, pet items, and anything on the floor
  • Bedrooms: hotel-tight beds, all personal photos off surfaces, replace any mismatched throw pillows
  • Bathrooms: clear all counters completely except one hand soap and one fresh towel per sink
  • Replace every burned-out bulb before the shoot day — Cypress homes often have long LED strips and under-cabinet lighting that's easy to miss

Bridgeland new construction tip: many Bridgeland homes have large sliding glass doors or multi-panel windows that flood the living areas with natural light. Make sure all these glass surfaces are clean and streak-free — they'll be prominent in photos and the difference between streak-free and dirty glass is dramatic in professional images.

Outdoor Living & Waterfront Areas

Cypress outdoor spaces are a major selling point — especially for Towne Lake waterfront properties and Bridgeland lake-backing lots. These features need extra attention because they're frequently the hero shots of the listing.

  • Pool: skim, brush, and run equipment to clear surface debris the morning of the shoot
  • Dock and waterfront: clear all fishing equipment, life preservers, dock boxes, and any maintenance items
  • Outdoor furniture: clean, stage, and straighten everything. Add fresh cushions if available
  • Covered patio: remove string lights if they're tangled or not operational — they photograph worse than nothing
  • Outdoor kitchen: wipe all surfaces and make it look ready to entertain, not in storage mode

Day-Of Checklist

  • Turn on every interior light — ceiling fans OFF (blur in photos)
  • Remove all pets and pet items completely off-premises if possible
  • Empty visible trash cans; remove full trash bags
  • Close all toilet lids and flush
  • Set the thermostat — on humid Cypress mornings, cool interior helps prevent window condensation
  • Do a final phone-camera walk-through from each room's doorway — if it looks cluttered on your iPhone, it'll photograph worse

“Cypress buyers are comparing your Bridgeland listing against builder model homes that have been professionally staged and photographed. The listings that sell in a week are the ones where the seller did the prep work the day before the shoot. The listings that sit are the ones where they didn't.”

Bridgeland & Towne Lake: Community Context Drone Shots

One of the most powerful elements of a Bridgeland or Towne Lake listing is the community itself — the lake system, walking trails, amphitheater, resort-style pools, and the sheer scale of the master plan. Jon captures drone aerials that show your home in context with these amenities, which helps buyers who haven't visited Bridgeland yet understand exactly what they're buying into. For these shots, the condition of your backyard fence line, landscaping, and any visible outdoor living areas is crucial.
